New Book Series, ECAS-Springer Collaboration
Springer and ECAS are launching a new book series: Courses in Advanced Statistics and Data Science. The series provides high-quality textbooks for academics, professionals, and graduate students; it gathers contributions from national statistical societies under the remit of ECAS and FENStatS (Federation of National Statistical Societies) and brings together expertise from around the world.
Towards Reliable Machine Learning: Transfer & Physics Informed Learning, and Conformal Prediction, ECAS-SFdS course, Fréjus (France), December, 1–5, 2025
Over the past decades, major research efforts in statistical and machine learning algorithms have enabled them to exploit large datasets. As a result, they are now used to support high-stakes decision-making in areas such as medicine, energy, or civic applications, to name just a few. Various recent waves of work aim at empowering them with novel techniques to make them more reliable, therefore ensuring their safe deployment and adoption by society. In this course, we will focus on two such tools: transfer & physics informed learning, and conformal prediction.
Transfer Learning. Theory, methods & applications. ECAS-ENBIS Course, Leuven (Belgium), 19th September 2024
The next ECAS-ENBIS half-day summer school will take place in Leuven (Belgium), as a post-conference course of ENBIS-24. This short course entitled "Transfer Learning. Theory, methods & applications" will present various transfer learning methods (instance-based, feature-based, parameter-based) that have been introduced in the literature depending on the information available for the source and the target.
Topics in Statistical Inference, FDNSS Intensive Course, Lammi (Finland), May, 27–31, 2024
The Finnish Statistical Society and the Finnish Society of Biostatistics arrange in co-operation with FDNSS (Finnish Doctoral Education Network in Stochastics and Statistics) an up-to-date course "Topics in Statistical Inference". The lecturer is professor Ryan Martin (North Carolina State University). Martin has advanced new theory of statistical inference, written a book about it and is presently working on a new book ”Fundamentals of Statistical Inference”.
Random forests: basics, extensions and applications, ECAS-SFdS course, Fréjus (France), October, 8–13, 2023
The course entitled "Random forests: basics, extensions and applications", will present, starting from the basics on tree-based methods and popular tree ensemble methods, several extensions of random forests and will demonstrate their ability in applications coming from several domains.
